The Rock in the Rock

As a kid in Rock Springs, we had 3 movie theaters, a total of 4 screens. The White Mountain Twin was the newest one, and nicest; but even that description is subjective! The Rock and the Cinema were across the street from each other downtown; they were the OLD theaters. I remember they each had a distinct, musty smell and were in ill repair. The Cinema was always missing ceiling tiles, and the few that it had in place were water stained and gross! I remember as a kid, thinking that Gremlins were going to come out of the holes in the ceiling! Which made watching "Spies Like Us" a distracted and scary experience. In the late 90s, the theaters got bought out and refurbished....but, they were still shitholes! But they were shitholes with a lot of history and good memories. They were OUR shitholes.
This is the Rock, looking like it did when my sister and I sat (and started) the line for "The Phantom Menace". We sat in line for 14 hours just to witness the magic that was Jar Jar Binks...at least the memory of waiting in line was good!

Safety Meeting

As teacher's, we need to blow off steam every now and again. Tuskers bar is a perfect location for doing just this! We do this under the code name "Safety Meeting". It's a great neighborhood bar, and the owner of DT's liquor store and Tuskers bar seems to like my paintings, which helps motivate me to keep painting her business! This is painting is unique because it shows the first signs of life in it: the moving pickup truck. Usually my work features only parked cars and no people, because if you sepnd much time in Cheyenne, that is what you usually see.

DT's Patio Bar

Here's another in a series of buildings and bars paintings I've been doing. This time we get to see another side of DT's, the "patio bar" side; decorated with one of our heavy October snows.

Yet another building in Cheyenne

My friend Connie Norman told me about this building here in Cheyenne after the architect how designed it and works in it was a guest speaker in her class. It's on the corner of Capital Ave and 17th st. Go check it out!

Ahhhh....Tusker's Bar. A favorite hangout for teachers who need to drown some sorrows and ease the pain of teaching junior high...

Count Chocula!!

One of my favorite things about October, besides the myriad of pumpkin flavored treats and drinks, is the the seasonal release of COUNT CHOCULA cereal!!! As a kid you could buy the Count and his berry flavored cohorts all year round; but somewhere in the late 90's they started being sold only in October. So to celebrate, I painted myself as a kid (hence the Cylon toy) enjoying some chocolate vampire goodness!
